Welcome, I'm Helen, most people call me Hallie. I am a trainee psychotherapist in the final stage of my MSc in person-centred and experiential psychotherapy, with 3 years' and over 300 hours' experience working with clients. I would describe myself as a patient, empathic and open-minded person. I enjoy being creative and spending time at the seaside.

I’m here to support you for all the times; times you feel disconnected or shutdown, times you want to explore, times you have a lightbulb moment and  times you want to celebrate.

I appreciate that thinking about going to therapy and finding the right therapist for you can come with a whole range of feelings, and also questions. I hope that whatever brings you here, exploring this site starts to give you a bit of an idea of what working together might be like. If you are interested in finding out more, you are always welcome to get in touch.

Thank you for considering whether I might be somebody who you would like to support you.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Helen "Hallie" McLaughlin (she/her)

My approach

I aim to be alongside you wholeheartedly. I value and respect you, your needs, experiences and ways of coping. I won’t dismantle any walls, I respect their role and will support you with what you want to get from sessions at your own pace. I aim to create a space together where you feel safe, valued and trusted to be, to explore, to experiment, and to discover your own answers. I appreciate this can mean something different to each of us and am here to meet you where you are. You, your experiences and ways of coping make sense and are valid. I'm not here to change you, but to support you to understand yourself and your experiences, to listen to yourself, and to discover what's right for you, in a space where you are the expert of that. I hope this space can become one where you feel welcome just as you are.

Some examples of ways person-centred and experiential therapy could support you are in exploring your relationship with yourself and others,   listening to and trusting yourself, recognising your needs, identifying and understanding patterns you're noticing in your life, finding what supports you to regulate emotions and to feel safe, recognising your strengths and living according to your values, and developing compassion for yourself and your experiences.

Above the sofa are three illustrated pictures of dandelions blowing into the air. Next to the sofa is a window with green and white curtains to either side and a view of a blue sky and rooves in the distance outside. In front of the sofa is a laptop stand with a laptop on it.
